Half-day, In-Person programming for Summer Camps

Discover the Gulf of Maine

Introduction (40 minutes): Using sounds, videos and images, we will introduce your campers to whales and other animals that are found in the Gulf of Maine.

3 Breakout Sessions: (20 minutes each)

Life-sized inflatable whale: Campers will see a life-sized model of a fin or humpback whale. While we aren’t taking children inside the whale this summer, we will have them peek in and then we will talk through how we are similar and different from whales.

I’m a Scientist: How do we study different species? We will go in depth into how we recognize individual humpbacks. Campers will pay a game to learn how to match whale tails and then have an opportunity to draw and name their own whale!

Marine Debris: What is it and what can we do about it? Using an Enviroscape, we will explore what happens to trash left on the side of the road. We will then think of what we can do to help reduce the amount of trash around us!

Wrap up: (15 minutes) We will gather back together to wrap up the day and answer final questions.

Details

This interactive demonstration allows us to show kids how debris becomes "marine debris".

· Cohort size for breakout sessions is up to 20 children.

· The program is designed and priced for 3 cohorts. If you have more, we could provide activity ideas for other breakout sessions that would be manned by your staff. We would just take longer to rotate through all the stations.
