Our Signature School Program Brings Science To Life

Students step inside Nile, our life-sized inflatable whale, for an unforgettable, immersive experience. Inside, they learn about whale anatomy, behavior, and adaptations through interactive discussions and real artifacts like bones and baleen. Outside the whale, we continue the learning with engaging activities tailored to each grade level. Whether we’re comparing marine ecosystems, discussing conservation, or exploring how whales are studied in the wild, every visit is designed to spark curiosity and deepen students’ understanding of the ocean—and their connection to it.

How It Works

Start with a Splash (Classroom Preview Video)

Before we arrive, students watch a 20-minute video that introduces them to whales, ocean science, and what to expect during our visit. It sets the stage and gets them excited to dive deeper.

One Class at a Time Enters the Gym

To keep the experience personal and engaging, we work with one class at a time. Each group rotates through a 40-minute session designed just for them.

20 Minutes Inside the Whale

Students step inside Nile, our life-sized inflatable whale, where they explore whale anatomy, adaptations, and how scientists study these gentle giants in the wild. It’s an unforgettable experience that feels like stepping into the ocean.

20 Minutes of Standards-Based Learning Outside the Whale

After exploring inside, students take part in a hands-on, NGSS-aligned lesson that reinforces key science concepts—connecting what they’ve seen to what they’re learning in school.

How to Book

    Frequently Asked Questions

How many classes can you see?

How many classes can you see?

It depends on your space! If we're set up in the gym for the full day, we can usually see more classes—up to 22 is our record! If we need to break down for lunch (like in a shared cafeteria), that reduces the number of sessions. With up to three educators coming to a program, we work efficiently to maximize learning time for as many classes as possible.

The whale is an 8 ft tube that is 43 ft long (essentially.) With the flippers out, it’s about 30 ft wide, but because it’s inflatable, the flippers are flexible and can go against a wall. If the diagonal of a room is 40 ft, that will work. I usually will walk out 14 big steps to see if it will fit. The other thing is that around the tail stock, it gets smaller, so sometimes that can fit through a doorway. The flippers can go between stacks of books.

What's the best age for this?

We love working with 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders because our program aligns perfectly with their science curriculum—but we tailor our presentations for all grade levels, from kindergarten through high school. Every age gets a whale of an experience!

    Can it be outside?

Unfortunately, this is an inside activity. Heat, wind and rain prevent us from setting it up outside, so we don't book outside programs.
